Ann Arbor Art Center, 1997

This piece was originally initiated by a series of unethical disciplinary meetings referred to as "mentoring sessions" that my wife was forced to attend at her university.  The installation explores how our government and university agricultural experts advised farmers in the 1970’s to "get big or get out," and the consequences of following that advice.  In this installation, two ladders extended to a corncrib filled with shelled corn.  A chair was attached to the end of each of these ladders and each rung was transcribed with a quote.  Reaching out of the corn was an arm cast in beeswax.
