Happenings

I believe that everything I do affects my work in some way. The simple act of changing a baby’s diaper eventually worked its way into my installation, Folding into the Earth. During the hours I spent each day taking care of my new daughter, I began thinking about art which could be designed with diapers and bottle nipples. My installation, Standing in the Eye of God, was created during this period of “recess.” This piece contained 2000 amber baby bottle nipples which were attached to a gallery wall forming an eight foot diameter circular shape. Within each nipple was a kernel of corn.

Sometimes, when I am constructing or preparing an installation, or working in my garden, chopping wood, or hiking, an idea comes to my head. I immediately will do a U-turn, stop everything, and with the help of serendipity, create a piece that I define as a happening.
