What Darkness Brings to Light

Virginia Polytechnic University, Armory Gallery, Blacksburg, 1997

This installation explored the prehistoric geological seam of the Appalachia.  Bisecting a rectangular 20' x 10' bed of coal, a line of water flowed down an 18-foot long hemlock beam.  Seven circular mirrors lay within the coal bed, reflecting light onto the gallery's ceiling.  Suspended above the bed on a circular plate of glass was a small-mummified bird, whose shadow was cast onto the ceiling.
